Discorso di Francesco Lenoci: OPENING CEREMONY INTERNATIONAL ERASMUS GAMES
welcome to Milano,
the city, as stated Alessandro Manzoni, “where the sky is so nice when it’s nice”;
the city of the legendary Stadio di San Siro, Arena Civica, Velodromo Vigorelli, Mediolanum Forum,……..a wonderful legend for sports such as football, athletics, cycling, tennis, basketball and volleyball.
I have no doubt: at the top level of sport there are Olympic Games.
The Olympic motto is “Citius Altius Fortius”. I am very proud to mention it today, in Milano, at the Opening Ceremony of International Erasmus Games.
In my opinion, no one succeed to run faster, to jump higher up, to spike stronger. . . . during a training session. To run faster, to jump higher up, to spike stronger it’s necessary a competition, you have to compete.
Remembering George Orwell, I’d like to think that “all students are equal, but some students are more equal than others”.
The question is……why.
The answer is because…….
Sorry……I said because…..I have to restart and you at my signal, say Because, please.
In my opinion, all Erasmus students are equal, but some Erasmus students are more equal than others.
The question is……why.
The answer is …….
As stated don Tonino Bello, “all men become brothers . . . playing together”.
Players have to accept an initial equality.
Players cannot claim advantages.
False start is not allowed.
Even if the game ends with the advantage of someone, today’s result is always overturn tomorrow.
In a match of football, basketball and volleyball, you will demonstrate that you will play with the opponent, not against the opponent.
In a match of football, basketball and volleyball, you will demonstrate that there are strong probability of success only if you play all-for-one and one-for-all.
You will play the match of football, basketball and volleyball with tenacity and fighting spirit, but after the game you will still be friends, maybe better friends.
You will demonstrate that sport is like love: you have to fight, to sacrifice, to suffer, to cry, to enjoy…… so you cannot live without it.
I have no doubt: Erasmus, the future belongs to you.
Erasmus, don’t betray the Olympic spirit, please.
Erasmus, never give up your dreams.
